Digesting fibre broadband: The truth about what you’re told versus what’s sold
We’re not ones for sugar coating things, so let’s rip that plaster off how we know best; quickly. Currently, your internet service provider (ISP) could be saying one thing and delivering another.
If you’ve ever experienced the frustration of having awful internet service, hearing a salesperson saying things like ‘we have ultrafast broadband packages thanks to fibre technology’ will probably sound like music to your ears. It’s everything you want and need to hear; they’re selling the dream, or are they?
Sadly, 90% of the time when an ISP sells a ‘fibre’ package it’s not actually fibre that you’re getting to your house. It’s most likely to be fibre to the cabinet (FTTC) where fibre optic cable is in place from the local telephone exchange to a distribution point (commonly called a roadside cabinet). From this distribution point a standard telephone line based on copper is then used to deliver the broadband connectivity.
Surely if you’re paying for fibre tech to provide internet all the way to your house, it should also be going into your house, right? Of course, it should! Instead, most suppliers are happy to use the old, dusty existing wires in the street to carry your internet, rather than pay for new fibre technology.
And they can still say it’s a fibre package because at some point, on its journey, it was carried by fibre. It just may have been a very long way away – and taken a really long time - before it reached you.
No longer. We at Quickline believe that if you pay for something, you should get it. When we say fibre will carry the internet all the way to your house, we mean it. We use a stealthy tech combo of fibre to the premises (FTTP) and 5G to get you your reliable connection.
When you choose a product from our Quickfire range, our friendly support team will come to your home and connect you, using an actual fibre cable, from the pole on the street, directly into house. And boom! You’ll notice the speedy difference immediately. You’ll wonder how you coped before. It’s 900Mbps which is ultrafast, not farce.
Direct fibre to your home thanks to Quickfire. And no more porkie pies.
